Description
Dissolution 1940 is a story of love and war, set against the imagined background of a Nazi invasion and occupation of England.
It is September 1940, and Rosa Winterfield, the matron of a boys’ school in Kent, escapes ahead of the invading German Army with a young Home Guardsman, Jonny Munton. The two survive a terrifying journey, eventually reaching East Anglia. Out of the close intimacy of their ordeal, they find love for each other. As the nation capitulates to Nazi power, they determine to fight on, and are recruited into a secret resistance network.
The German Kommandant of the area seeks to rule a conquered people. He rewards collaboration, but is determined to destroy all those who still resist – the ‘terrorists’ who are threatening his command.
Through a terrible tragedy, Rosa falls into the Kommandant’s power, and is forced into becoming his mistress. Jonny, however, still fights on, and he is thirsty for revenge – against both the Kommandant and his former lover.
Will there be a day of destiny – a time of dissolution – when all three meet?
